A Junior Doctor’s Perspective on the ASM 2023

Created - 30.11.2023

As an FY1 I had a fantastic experience at the BSIR 2023 conference in Newport. This was the third time I have attended the ASM and I hope to return in future.

It is a great opportunity to learn about IR from experts from across the UK, gain hands-on experience with equipment, and even get the chance to present research projects to a national audience. The IR Juniors Lounge at the conference allowed me to meet other foundation doctors and medical students interested in IR and find out what opportunities they have been involved in. It also provided an approachable environment to talk to radiology trainees about the application process and gain portfolio advice. The BSIR conference is accessible to medical students and foundation doctors through reduced fees to attend and opportunities to apply for travel bursaries. In addition to the scientific research talks about the newest developments in the specialty, the Foundation Day on the last day of the conference was aimed specifically at trainees and applicants and provided information about IR career paths and subspecialties.
