BSIR ASM 2022: foundation doctor view – my unprecedented experience

Created - 22.12.2022

My preparation to attend the BSIR ASM 2022 began a couple of months ago when I approached one of my mentors in radiology in a desperate need to get involved in a project. I had been to a handful of local/regional radiology conferences, but I still was not sure what to expect; however, I can confidently say that the BSIR ASM superseded my expectation.

The meeting was held at SEC, Glasgow with a wide range of exciting programs (masterclasses, key topics in interventional radiology (IR), active learning zone, scientific and educational poster presentations) for every level. The sessions were filled with a host of intelligible and enthusiastic speakers, both national and international, with an infectious passion for radiology. It was amazing to see the celebrated lives of the founders of IR (e.g., Dr WattieFletcher) and the roles they played in making BSIR and IR altogether what it is today. As an aspiring radiologist, I’d like to think I am part of the future of radiology; therefore, hearing RCR president, Dr Halliday, highlight current issues and proposed solutions for IR in her ‘RCRs vision’ speech was inspiring. I spent my last day at the BSIRT/BSIR foundation day organised by the IR juniors. This was also a phenomenal session loaded with different enlightening talks, hands-on activities and even more networking. With an extensive number of sessions at the general meeting, there were a few highly advanced/ subspecialised topics somewhat beyond my purview. It was particularly helpful to experience the BSIR meeting from the perspective of an IR junior- which the BSIR foundation day provided. Overall, BSIR ASM 2022 was a remarkable academic event. It was a perfect learning ground for anyone and everyone with genuine hunger for new clinical knowledge and best practices in the rapidly evolving field of IR. It was also a great opportunity to network with colleagues, share ideas and have fun at the same time! Till next time, farewell!
